A bit about Norristown, Pennsylvania!

This was the home of Revolutionary War General Andrew Porter and members of his noted family; Astronomer, instrument and clock maker David Rittenhouse; Naturalist artist John James Audubon; the hero of Gettysburg General Winfield Scott Hancock;  General, hero, governor and politician John Hartranft; Inventor, Pioneer Aeronaut, Industrialist Thaddeus Sobielski Lowe; Hall of Fame Baseball Manager Tom LaSorda; San Diego All Star Mike Piazza; International jazz organist Jimmy Smith; Noted Historian Charles Blockson, Civil War Author Al Gambone and prize winning children's author Jerry Spinelli.

We are proud of Norristown, its historic past, its handsome buildings and in particular, its accomplished people.

NORRISTOWN HISTORY DAY

Again, this Spring, the Norristown Preservation Society was able to hold its History Day Event at Saint John's Episcopal Church on Airy Street, across from the Montgomery County Court House. It was well attended and the coverage in the local newspaper helped swell the public attendance.

St. Johns had a photo projection of the extensive revovations it has done on the historic church that dates from the same time as the incorporation of Norristown, in 1812.

The recent publication of picture books about Norristown received considerable attention. The authors, Michael Bono and Ed Coll were in attendance, talking to visitors, and sharing in the enthusiasm we all share about the history of our town.

We are already looking forward to next years event.
